MMA Iluminado - Brilliance in Blue
Project type
Fabric Art
Date
December 2024
Location
Monterey Museum of Art, Monterey, CA
Every forest shares a history, preserved in the memory of each tree. This fiber arts experience invites you to create new memories as part of a shared experience. Trees and people share so much in common. We both need a community and a stable environment to heal, grow, and thrive.
Hanging tapestries celebrate organic materials captured between transparent fabrics. Cyanotypes create botanical compositions of native Monterey plant species onto cotton fabric panels. Together, they are botanical surveys representing the past, present, and future.
Join this journey of discovery, education, and development. Step into the fiber forest, sit on the tree stump ottomans, and enjoy a picnic among the trees. “Leaf your mark” by adding your fingerprint to the soft-sculpted community tree. Like your fingerprints, tree rings are unique, shaped by time and unique life history. Embrace the layers you are building as you grow in your nature, purpose, and style! The next time you observe your hands or gaze at a tree, remember your connection to the many individuals whose stories form the fabric of this community.
